Herlings dominates at home as Farrés extends MX2 lead

Jeffrey Herlings and Guillem Farrés leave Arnhem with another important step forward in their respective championship campaigns. Herlings dominated his home Grand Prix to claim his fifth consecutive overall victory, while Farrés secured the final step of the MX2 podium and extended his championship lead to 25 points with three rounds remaining. Camden McLellan took his third MX2 overall win of the season.

MXGP: Herlings makes it five in a row

There was little doubt about who was the man to beat in Arnhem. Jeffrey Herlings (Honda HRC Petronas) was fastest in every session and completed a perfect weekend with a 1-1 scorecard.

The win marked Herlings’ 10th overall victory of the season and fifth in succession, adding another triumph to his already remarkable record at home. Before this weekend, he had won 16 of the previous 18 Dutch GPs he had contested. Now, number 17 is in the books.

Herlings had to work for the first moto, however. Kay de Wolf (Nestaan Husqvarna) led for much of the race before Herlings finally made the decisive move late in the moto. The roles were reversed in Race 2, with Herlings controlling the race from the opening lap while De Wolf followed in his wheel tracks until a crash effectively secured the Dutchman a comfortable second place.

De Wolf finished 2-2 for his best overall result of the season and joined Herlings on the podium, while Tom Vialle (Honda HRC Petronas) completed the Top 3 with a consistent 4-3 scorecard.

For Romain Febvre (Kawasaki KRT), Arnhem was another difficult weekend in the championship fight. A first-corner crash left him 10th in Race 1, where he was eventually lapped by Herlings. A fifth-place finish in Race 2 limited the damage, but Febvre could only manage seventh overall.

The championship gap now stands at 143 points in Herlings’ favour. With three rounds remaining, the Honda rider could potentially clinch the title in Turkey if he extends his advantage to 160 points.

MX2: McLellan wins as Farrés strengthens the lead

Camden McLellan (Triumph Factory Racing) came out on top in MX2, taking his third overall victory of the season with a 1-2 scorecard.

McLellan capitalized on a late mistake from Sacha Coenen to win the opening moto before finishing second behind Liam Everts (Nestaan Husqvarna) in Race 2. That was enough to put him back on the top step of the overall podium and move him into third in the championship, 37 points behind Farrés.

Everts enjoyed one of his strongest weekends of the season. After winning Saturday’s qualifying race, the Belgian backed it up with a 4-1 result on Sunday to claim second overall and his second consecutive podium.

Behind them, Guillem Farrés (Triumph Factory Racing) delivered exactly what he needed in the championship battle. The Spaniard fought hard in both motos to finish 3-3, securing third overall while extending his advantage over Sacha Coenen to 25 points.
