Perfect Saturday for Herlings & de Wolf Stole the Show!
Jeffrey Herlings lived up to his status as the hometown favourite by winning the MXGP Qualifying Race and completing a flawless Saturday in Arnhem. The Honda HRC Petronas rider topped Free Practice, dominated Time Practice and capped off the day with victory in the Qualifying Race.
The race began with Andrea Adamo grabbing the holeshot, but the Italian was unable to keep Herlings behind for long. The Dutchman moved into the lead during the opening laps and, once at the front, controlled the race to secure another victory in front of his home fans.
While Herlings pulled away at the front, the battle behind him provided plenty of action throughout the race. The standout performer was Kay de Wolf. The Nestaan Husqvarna rider suffered a small crash in the opening corner that dropped him close to last place, but responded with an impressive charge through the field.
De Wolf eventually climbed into second place in the closing stages, pushing Adamo down to third and delivering one of the most remarkable comeback rides of the season.
Glenn Coldenhoff also impressed in what is the final Grand Prix of his career. The Dutchman once again showcased his speed in the sand, guiding his private Yamaha to fourth place after spending much of the race running inside the Top 3.
