The Motocross of Nations – where more than 40 countries compete with their best motocross riders for the coveted world title – will return to the Netherlands in 2027. From October 9 to 10, 2027, the prestigious event will once again take place at the TT Circuit. This has been announced by Infront Moto Racing Group, the organizer of the FIM MXGP World Championship.
Back to Assen
After the successful edition in 2019, the most important motocross race in the world will return to the province of Drenthe. The TT Circuit Assen hosted the MXGP of the Netherlands from 2016 to 2019 and was also the venue for the 2019 Motocross of Nations. With the announcement of the 2027 event, Assen further strengthens its unique position as a venue for motorsports, hosting both the World Championships for Road Racing (MotoGP & WorldSBK) and Motocross on the same grounds.
David Luongo, CEO of Infront Moto Racing:
“We are proud to bring the Monster Energy Motocross of Nations back to Assen in 2027. The previous edition at this legendary location left a lasting impression on both fans and teams, and the Netherlands has always played an important role in the history of our sport. Hosting the 80th edition of this iconic event at such an iconic circuit is the perfect combination. Together with the FIM, the KNMV, and the local organizers, we are fully committed to delivering another world-class motocross celebration that honors both the rich tradition and the future of the MXoN.”
A global showdown
The Motocross of Nations, also known as the ‘Olympics of motocross,’ is a unique clash between newly crowned world champions and the international elite of the sport. In recent years, an average of 40 countries have participated, each represented by three top riders. The event draws tens of thousands of fans from all over the world to what is considered the most important motocross event of the year.

The Netherlands on the podium
In the 80-year history of the event, the Netherlands has stood on the podium 15 times and claimed its first historic victory on home soil at the 2019 MXoN in Assen. It was Calvin Vlaanderen, Glenn Coldenhoff, and multiple-time world champion Jeffrey Herlings who dominated to secure the first-ever Dutch Nations win. The Dutch riders were also on the podium at the most recent MXoN in Great Britain in 2024, finishing third. Dutch motocross riders are among the absolute elite internationally. From the start of the motocross world championship in 1947 through to 2024, Dutch riders have collected the most world championship points, putting the Netherlands firmly in first place. With an impressive total of 6,915 points, the Netherlands leads comfortably ahead of France (2nd with 5,082 points) and the United States (3rd with 3,666 points). In terms of points scored, the Netherlands is simply the best motocross nation in the world.
