Italian rider Mattia Guadagnini will once again undergo surgery and is set to miss a large part of the 2026 MXGP World Championship. The Van Venrooy KTM rider suffered another injury during a testing session after fracturing the collarbone in the same shoulder that has already caused him multiple problems in the past.
According to Guadagnini, it is the same shoulder where he has already suffered “six or seven injuries,” a situation that will now require surgery in order to properly fix the issue once and for all.
“During a testing day, I crashed and fractured the collarbone in my injured shoulder, the same shoulder where I’ve already had six or seven injuries. So the situation is far from ideal and surgery will be needed to fix everything.”
The Italian admitted he will be sidelined for an extended period and, unless there is a surprise recovery, his 2026 campaign is effectively over.
“I will probably miss most of the season. This is the time to let the injury fully heal, undergo surgery and recover completely. I know I can achieve great things when I feel good, can train consistently and build a solid base.”
Guadagnini was currently sitting 14th in the MXGP standings, a position that did not fully reflect the pace he had shown on track. The Italian had been particularly competitive on Saturdays, scoring points in three of the first five qualifying races of the season. However, several issues on Sundays prevented him from converting that speed into strong overall results, with just one top-10 moto finish so far in 2026.
