Sacha Coenen Injured at Southwick
Sacha Coenen’s victory at the sixth round of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship came with a major setback. The Belgian rider completed a perfect weekend at Southwick by winning both 250MX motos, but a potential injury could overshadow his dominant performance.
Coenen controlled the event from start to finish, displaying superior pace throughout the day. However, during the second moto, he suffered a heavy crash that immediately raised concerns. Despite remounting and maintaining the lead all the way to the checkered flag, the scenes that followed suggested something was seriously wrong.
As soon as he returned to the paddock, the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider reportedly told his mechanics that he believed he had broken his collarbone. The injury appeared significant enough that Coenen was unable to attend the podium ceremony, with one of his mechanics collecting the winner’s trophy on his behalf.
If the injury is confirmed, it would be a major blow for the Belgian, who currently leads the MX2 World Championship by 14 points over Guillem Farrés. With the calendar moving quickly, there is little time for recovery. The next round of the series is the British Grand Prix at Foxhill on July 18-19, just one week after the incident at Southwick.
The focus now shifts to the extent of the injury and whether the MX2 championship leader will be fit enough to defend the red plate at one of the most anticipated events of the season.
