The 1-1-1 Club: Motocross Grand Prix Sweep List

Farres Portugal 26

Winning a Grand Prix in the FIM Motocross World Championship is already a difficult task. Winning all three races of the weekend is something else entirely.

Since qualifying races became a regular part of the Grand Prix format in 2010, only a select group of riders have managed to achieve the perfect sweep: victory in Saturday’s qualifying race followed by wins in both motos on Sunday. An achievement that earns a place in the exclusive “1-1-1 Club”.

The first riders to join the 1-1-1 Club were Antonio Cairoli and Marvin Musquin during the 2010 season. Cairoli opened the account in Valkenswaard in the premier class, while Musquin became MX2’s first member at the Portuguese Grand Prix in Águeda.

The newest member of this select group is Guillem Farrés, who accomplished the feat at Águeda, Portugal. The Spaniard topped all three races during the weekend, although his performance came with a small caveat after receiving a five-position penalty in Race 2 for jumping under a yellow flag. Nevertheless, Farrés still secured the overall Grand Prix victory and earned his place in the 1-1-1 Club.

If there is one rider who dominates this statistic above all others, it is Jeffrey Herlings. The Dutchman tops the all-time rankings in both MX2 and MXGP. In the intermediate class, he amassed an astonishing 35 perfect weekends between 2010 and 2016, accounting for nearly half of all MX2 1-1-1 performances recorded since the introduction of qualifying races. In 2016 alone, Herlings achieved ten clean sweeps, highlighting a level of dominance rarely seen in World Championship competition.

His success continued in MXGP, where he has added another 18 entries to his tally. The 2018 season was particularly remarkable, as Herlings recorded eleven perfect weekends in a single year. More recently, however, qualifying races have not been his strongest asset. His latest 1-1-1 came at the 2025 MXGP of China, and through the opening ten rounds of the 2026 season he has yet to repeat the achievement.

The significance of this statistic increased even further in 2023, when qualifying races began awarding championship points to the top ten finishers. Previously, Saturday’s race primarily determined gate selection for Sunday’s motos. Today, it also plays a direct role in the title fight.

One of the greatest specialists under this format was Jorge Prado. The Spaniard collected 100 qualifying race points during the 2023 season, demonstrating exceptional Saturday speed. Converting that advantage into perfect weekends, however, remained a challenge. Prado recorded five 1-1-1 performances in MXGP, while in MX2 he accumulated an impressive fourteen, including nine during his dominant 2019 championship campaign.

Another remarkable fact is that only three riders have achieved a 1-1-1 in both MX2 and MXGP: Jeffrey Herlings, Jorge Prado and Lucas Coenen. The young Belgian recently became the third rider to join this exclusive group, further confirming his status as one of the sport’s brightest talents.
