Guillem Farrés on his first career podium at the MXGP of Germany

Farres Germany 25 podium

Monster Energy Triumph Factory Racing’s Guillem Farres has placed a career-best second overall at the MXGP of Germany. After racing to ninth in moto one, the Spanish star claimed a maiden victory in race two to secure his place on the overall podium.

Guillem took full advantage of his gate pick and ran fourth for much of the opening race. After slipping to fifth, he crashed on the penultimate lap, dropping to ninth. Farres then held off coutrymen Oriol Oliver to secure a solid top-10 finish.

Farres was much more impressive in race two. As rain had fallen after the first race, a strong start was essential, and Guillem rounded the first turn in second. Farres then shadowed early race leader Sacha Coenen, but when his rival fell, he moved into the lead. From there, with a comfortable gap behind him, the 22-year-old charged to victory aboard his TF 250-X to secure his place on the second step of the podium. The solid points haul moves Guillem up to 12th from 15th in the championship.

“To get a race win and second overall is amazing! Coming into today, we made some small changes to the bike and they made a really big difference. My first race wasn’t so good as I made a mistake while sixth and I dropped to ninth. But the second race went almost perfectly. I started second, the leader crashed, and I controlled the race to the finish. The goal now is to keep the ball rolling and be up front all the time. Thanks to the team again for doing such a great job with the bike.”
