Probably, Gavin Towers was the main character of the 42nd edition of the 2023 AMA Amateur Loretta Lynn´s National. Not only because he won his first career Loretta Lynn´s championship in one of the main classes as it is the 250 Pro Sport, but also by the fact that he overcome an injury that put his qualification to Loretta´s in jeopardy.

Back in June, the STACY Yamaha Amateur Factory rider got injured during the Gatorback Southeast Regional. He broke his collarbone and missed the rest of the weekend. On Monday, June 5, Towers went under surgery to get his collarbone plated. And just 5 days later he showed up in Budds Creek, winning the 250 Pro Sport and finishing fourth overall in the Open Pro Sport in order to qualify for both classes.

The sacrifice was well-rewarded as he ended up winning his first career Loretta Lynn´s title via 3-3-2 in the three motos of the class.

Towers made the jump from KTM to Team Green in 2019, debuting on the green bike at the Monster Energy Cup. He finished 2-3 for second overall behind Husqvarna’s Evan Ferry. At the Loretta Lynn’s in 2020, Towers finished second overall (2-2-3 moto finishes) in Supermini 1 (12-15) and fourth overall (3-5-4 moto finishes) in Supermini 2 (13-16). He then made the jump to the 250.

At the 2021 Loretta Lynn’s, Towers finished 3-3-2 for second overall in 250 B and 7-5-2 for fourth overall in Schoolboy 2 (12-17) B/C in his first year on the big bike.

Last year, Towers made his pro-day-view at the Ironman National, but things didn´t go as planned as he suffered an injury that required surgery. However, it seems this year he will line up again probably next weekend when the AMA Pro Motocross Championship returns in Unadilla for round 9, this time as the new 250 Pro Sport National Champ.
