The ACU British Motocross Championship heads to Landrake this Sunday, May 17, for the fourth round of the season, with both classes once again shaping up to be extremely competitive — especially MX1, where the top three riders arrive separated by only a handful of points in the battle for the championship lead.
Ben Watson (DirtStore Triumph) comes into the weekend with momentum after securing his second overall victory of the season at the previous round in Lyng. However, the Brit still has no room to relax in the standings, as Conrad Mewse (Crendon Tru7 Honda) and Oriol Oliver (Gabriel SS24 KTM) remain right behind him, both sitting just five points off the lead. The close competition between the trio has not only been reflected in the standings, but also on track, where they have produced some of the best battles of the season so far. Oliver also believes the hardpack conditions at Landrake could work in his favour this weekend.
Top 5 MX1 Standings after Round 3 of 8
| Pos | Rider | Points |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Ben Watson | 127 |
| 2 | Conrad Mewse | 123 |
| 3 | Oriol Oliver | 123 |
| 4 | Taylor Hammal | 105 |
| 5 | Tristan Pourdon | 69 |
Further back in the standings is Taylor Hammal (DRT Kawasaki), who may be slightly further adrift mathematically, but has shown the pace to challenge for podium positions on any given day. His presence only adds more intensity to an MX1 class that remains completely wide open.
The situation in MX2 is somewhat different. Charlie Heyman (SC Sporthomes Husqvarna) is coming off a dominant 1-1 performance at Lyng, a result that allowed him to significantly extend his championship advantage. The British rider now leads Gyan Doensen (Gabriel SS24 KTM) by 32 points, while reigning champion Tommy Searle (DirtStore Triumph) sits 40 points behind in third.
