Sacha Coenen Undergoes Successful Surgery Following Southwick Injury

Sacha Coenen’s victory at the sixth round of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship came with a significant setback. The Belgian rider completed a perfect weekend at Southwick by sweeping both 250MX motos, but a crash in the second race left him facing an uncertain recovery.

Coenen controlled the event from start to finish, showcasing exceptional speed throughout the day. However, during the second moto, he suffered a heavy fall that immediately raised concerns. Despite remounting and holding on to the lead until the checkered flag, it became clear afterward that he had sustained an injury.

Upon returning to the paddock, the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider informed his team that he believed he had broken his collarbone. The injury was serious enough to prevent him from attending the podium ceremony, with one of his mechanics collecting the winner’s trophy on his behalf.

Further medical examinations confirmed the fracture, and Coenen underwent surgery in the United States on Monday. The procedure, which involved the insertion of a plate to stabilize the collarbone, was completed successfully.

The positive outcome of the operation has given the MX2 World Championship leader hope of lining up at the British Grand Prix in Foxhill this weekend. While his participation remains uncertain, it has not been ruled out.

A similar situation occurred in 2024 when Simon Längenfelder underwent collarbone surgery just days before the Lugo Grand Prix and still managed to secure a top-ten finish.

Before any decision can be made, Coenen must first pass the mandatory medical examination conducted by the FIM doctor at Foxhill on Friday. Only after receiving official clearance will he be permitted to compete.

If he is declared fit to race, it would be a significant boost for the Belgian, who currently leads the MX2 World Championship by 14 points over Guillem Farrés. With the title battle entering a crucial phase, all eyes will be on Foxhill to see whether the red plate holder can overcome the latest obstacle in his championship campaign.
