Guillem Farres on his first-career GP win in France

Farres France Lacapelle 26 3

Guillem Farrés has done it! The Spaniard has officially joined the list of MX2 Grand Prix winners, and he did so in spectacular fashion with a perfect 1-1 performance at the Lacapelle-Marival Grand Prix in France, the sixth round of the FIM Motocross World Championship.

Aside from a small crash while leading Saturday’s qualifying race — where he eventually finished fourth — Farrés was nearly flawless throughout the entire weekend in France. Starting third in the opening moto on Sunday, the Spaniard moved into the lead within just a couple of laps and from there proved untouchable, controlling the race all the way to the checkered flag.

The second moto was even more dramatic. Farrés once again found himself running third after an excellent charge through the opening laps, this time behind Camden McLellan in second and Janis Reisulis, who was leading the race. The Spanish rider then passed his teammate on lap two before shadowing Reisulis for much of the moto while waiting for the right moment to strike. With three laps to go, Farrés made the decisive move for the lead and, despite intense pressure from McLellan in the closing stages, held on to secure both the moto win and his first-ever Grand Prix victory.

The result also represents a major boost for his championship hopes, as Farrés now sits third in the standings, just 20 points behind series leader Simon Längenfelder, who endured a difficult Sunday with 4-7 moto finishes.

“It was a decent Sunday here in Lacapelle-Marival. I had two pretty good starts. In the first moto I was a little further back, but I was able to work my way through the pack up to third. In the second moto, I got a much better start and had a really strong opening lap, which put me into second until Guillem passed me. After that, I followed him for most of the race before making a push in the final few laps. We ended up battling for the win right to the finish. Overall, a 3-2 result for second overall is definitely something positive to take from the weekend.”
