Lucas Coenen has been officially ruled out of the MXGP of Loket, the 13th round of the FIM Motocross World Championship, taking place this weekend in the Czech Republic.
The Red Bull KTM De Carli rider has been dealing with a nerve compression in his left hip following his crash during last weekend’s Qualifying Race at Foxhills.
Although Coenen attempted to compete in Saturday’s Qualifying Race at Loket, the physical discomfort proved too severe for him to finish the race. As a precautionary measure, and to prevent the injury from worsening, the team has decided to withdraw him from the remainder of the Grand Prix.
The news represents a significant setback for both Coenen and KTM, with the Belgian currently leading the championship. However, the focus now shifts entirely to his recovery and return to full fitness.
Meanwhile, Jeffrey Herlings heads into Sunday’s opening MXGP race with a golden opportunity to take over the championship lead. The Dutchman trails Coenen by just a single point and is now in prime position to secure the red plate.
