Privateer Ty Masterpool has decided to step up into the 450 class this weekend at the second round of the AMA Pro Motocross series at Hangtown and beyond. It will be his first-ever 450 race in the pro ranks.
A week ago, Masterpool finished 18th in the 250 division at the season opener in Fox Raceway after a 14-23 in motos. Perhaps not the best result on paper, but he was the best privateer in the class as he was the only one riding for his own team that finished inside the top 20. Yep…the 250 division is so deep this year.
According to Masterpool, the main reason to take such a decision is he hasn´t enough budget to make his Kawasaki 250 as competitive as he wants. And considering the lack of factories rider in the main category, is a great opportunity to throw a leg over a 450 bike. This will be his debut on a 450.
In the past, Masterpool rode for Star Racing Yamaha finishing inside the top 10 a couple of times. His best motocross result so far was sixth, both times at Red Bud.
