There is no doubt that Jorge Prado and Jeffrey Herlings will be the favorites this weekend in Riola Sardo for the second round of the MXGP World Championship. Both are well known for their sand skills. Probably everyone remembers the battle they had back in 2016 in the deep sand of Assen. And the most recent “back and forth” duel they had over a sand track was two years ago in Riola Sardo. That day Herlings took the overall win like in 2016, but the young Spaniard didn´t make things easy for “The bullet” in the second race.
This year we had a “game on” atmosphere with Jorge Prado carrying the red plate as a Championship leader by 2 points over his countrymen Rubén Fernández. While Jeffrey Herlings is expecting to be at front due to his sand speed and his recent win in Harfsen, a very tough sand track.
Of course, we cannot forget Calvin Vlaanderen. Last year in Riola Sardo, the Netherlands rider shock the world by going 1-1 en route to his first-ever win.
