Preview: Abu Dhabi WSX Grand Prix

wsx australia start 24

It´s race time! The final round of the WSX series will take place tomorrow, Wednesday 4th, in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi.

Tomac has won 10 of the 12 races contested since the opening round in Vancouver, Canada. And therefore leads the championship with an advantage of 46 and 51 points over Ken Roczen and Joey Savatgy, the only two riders who have been able to beat Tomac at least once. Savatgy, by the way, was proclaimed Australian SX1 champion a week ago in Melbourne.

Shane McElrath was also crowned Australian champion but in SX2. McElrath leads the championship by a comfortable 55 points margin over Coty Shock and 57 over Enzo Lopes. Both riders preceded McElrath on the podium at the Australian double-header.

On the injury front, unfortunately we’ll be missing  a few riders. Dean Wilson dislocated his shoulder in Perth, and will be replaced at the FirePower Honda Team by Aaron Tanti. Colt Nichols also got injured in Perth, which means Thomas Ramette will jump aboard the PMG Suzuki as a Ken Roczen teammate. Meanwhile, Phil Nicoletti returns to the series for the first time since 2022 as a fill-in rider in the CDR Yamaha team, taking the spot of Kaleb Barham in the SX2 class.
