MXoN 2025: Australia on pole after Qualifying Races

MXon start 25

The opening day of the 78th Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations at Ironman Raceway (Crawfordsville, Indiana) wrapped up with Team Australia taking pole position after winning two of the three qualifying heats. The defending champions are off to a perfect start and look ready to fight for back-to-back titles on Sunday.

Team Netherlands ended the day second overall thanks to Kay de Wolf (2nd in MX2) and Calvin Vlaanderen (3rd in Open). However, their momentum took a hit after Glenn Coldenhoff suffered a heavy crash in the MXGP race, putting his participation for Sunday in serious doubt.

The only team able to stop the Australian dominance was Belgium, courtesy of an impressive MX2 win by Sacha Coenen. His brother Lucas Coenen recovered from a first-turn crash to finish sixth, while Liam Everts added a solid fifth in Open. Belgium rounded out the top three overall with strong, consistent rides.

The home heroes had a tough start but salvaged solid results. Justin Cooper (3rd in MX2) and RJ Hampshire (4th in Open) helped steady the ship after Eli Tomac (7th in MXGP) struggled with a difficult start. Team USA sits inside the top five and remains in the fight ahead of Sunday’s main motos.
