Jorge Prado and Lucas Coenen win the Qualifying Races in the 17th round of the MXGP World Championship in Fauenferld, Switzerland. Both riders closed the gap over their respective red-plate holders, as Prado is now 8 points behind Tim Gajser, and Lucas gains 1 more point over Kay de Wolf but still, the advantage is 44 points.
On his first race since the opening round in Argentina, GP returnee Ruben Fernandez impressed by taking the holeshot and leading for the next 4 laps until countryman Jorge Prado made the pass for the lead. Once at the front, Prado held off for the lead. Fernandez on the other hand dropped to eight.
Tim Gajser and Jeffrey Herlings didn´t have the best starts and charged from 6th and 8th to 2nd and 3rd respectively. Meanwhile, Maxime Renaux (on his first GP since Spain) put in a great effort finishing 4th after a big battle against local hero Jeremy Seewer who rounded the Top 5.
As for the MX2 class, another Neestan Husqvarna duel saw Lucas Coenen and Kay de Wolf run at the front with Lucas taking the holeshot. de Wolf applied pressure the entire race but crashed with two laps to go, but he got up in 2nd. Simon Langenfelder rode a solid 3rd place, while KTM duo Liam Everts and Andrea Adamo filled the Top 5.
