The Neestan Husqvarna Factory Racing team has confirmed that Kay de Wolf, reigning MX2 World Champion, will wear the #1 for the entire 2025 World Motocross season. A welcome news for all the fans, as it is something that doesn’t happen very often in World Motocross. In fact, in the MX2 category it has only happened four times since the MX2 era starting in 2004.
Antonio Cairoli | 2006
Despite his nine times world champion, although we only saw him wear the #1 for one season, that of 2006 after winning his first world title. That year he could not revalidate the title as he lost it to Christophe Pourcel. In 2007 Cairoli would become MX2 World Champion again, but in 2008 he would make the definitive jump to the premier class and since then he kept his iconic #222.

Marvin Musquin | 2010
Unlike Cairoli, Marvin Musquin did manage to retain the title while carrying the weight of the #1 plate. The following year he would move full-time to the United States.

Jordi Tixier | 2015
After winning the MX2 World Championship in the final stages of the 2014 season with KTM Red Bull, Jordi Tixier not only changed his #911 number to #1, but also signed with KRT Kawasaki. Unfortunately Tixier would fail to retain the title.

Pauls Jonass | 2018
The Latvian decided to defend his first MX2 World title wearing the #1, but his failed to retain it against Jorge Prado.

Kay de Wolf | 2025
And finally we have again a #1 in the World Championship, this time in the hands of Kay de Wolf. Will the Dutchman be able to revalidate the title as Musquin did in 2010?
