Guide: 2024 WSX World Supercross Championship

The FIM Supercross World Championship will start this weekend Saturday, October 26 in Vancouver, Canada. It will be the third season of a championship that is still going strong despite some inconveniences or delays. This year will be some changes in the race format and team lineups, such as the unexpected arrival of Eli Tomac under the tent of the Australian CDR Yamaha team.

RACE FORMAT

  • Practice: This session allow riders to learn the layout

  • Qualifying (15 minutes): Features all riders, with their lap times determining eligibility for SuperPole and Main Events starting gate positions.

  • SuperPole: The top 4 from qualifying complete a single-lap time trial to establish starting gate positions for the Main Events. Also, SuperPole winner gets 5 points, 2nd 3 points and 3rd 1 point.

  • Main Events: The first two races will be eight laps, and the third will be 12 laps. Same in both classes.

  • SuperFinal: Determined by points standings after the 3 GPs of the night, top 8 riders from both WSX and SX2 will qualify for the SuperFinal and battle it out for extra points.

ClubMX, Honda NILS and MDK Motorsport will no longer be part of the series and have not been replaced. These departures have reduced the number of teams to seven: BUD Racing Kawasaki, CDR Yamaha, FirePower Honda, MCR Honda, PMG Suzuki, GSM Yamaha and Rick Ware Racing. Each of these teams will have two riders per class. WSX will be the premier class and SX2 for the 250cc machines.

WILDCARDS

Following the confirmation that Max Anstie will contest the 2024 WSX Canadian GP, the FIM World World Supercross Championship (WSX) has confirmed that a further three riders will join the reigning SX2 champion as Wildcard entries in Vancouver.

As the first of three new Wildcard riders, three-time Brailian Arenacross Champion Lucas Dunka will face the biggest test of his career to date when he makes his WSX debut in Vancouver, competing alongside racing icons including Ken Roczen and Eli Tomac in the series’ premier category.

Cade Clason, from Arcadia, Ohio, will appear alongside Dunka on the WSX class grid and is eager to showcase his skills on the world stage by rejoining the championship after racing in the series full-time in 2022 and 2023.

In WSX’s SX2 250cc class, 19-year-old Preston Boespflug will line up alongside Max Anstie to make his official debut in the championship.
