Triumph became the eight brand to win a 125/250 Main Event in the history of the AMA Supercross. This ocurred at the fourth round of the 250SX West Coast in Glendale with Jordon Smith going 2-3-1 en route to take the overall at the first Triple Crown race format of the season. It was Smith´s fifth career win but the first of the history for Triumph at it´s 13th attempt since the brand first race in 2024 at the opening round of the 250SX East Coast in Detroit.
Smith had four career wins before to win on Triumph and gave the brand its first-ever 250SX Main Event win. But here is a crazy stat that I found about the first win form the other seven brands. When Kawasaki, Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, KTM, Husqvarna and GasGas won for the first time an small bore class Main Event, it was also the first-career win for each rider.
The small-bore class, or the 250SX class as we know now, was introduced in 1985 in order to get young riders a chance in the spotlight. And the first race-ever took place at the season opener in San Diego, on January 26th. Kawasaki´s Todd Cambpell won the opening 125SX West Coast round, which was his first-ever career win and the first for Kawasaki in this class.

Round 2 of the 125SX West Coast took place on February 2 at Anaheim, where Mike Healey won his first-career Main Event but on Suzuki, which was the first win for the brand as well.
Larry Brooks won the second round of the 125SX East Coast in Orlando on April 27th. The first win of his career on his rookie season and the first win for Honda in this class.
Yamaha had to wait a little bit longer to reach a win in this class. In 1988 a young Mike LaRocco won in Pontiac 1, at his first attempt in supercross!

The new millennium saw the first victories for KTM and Husqvarna, both wins coming within a week of each other. Grant Langston won in Irving on April 21, 2001 and Travis Preston on April 27 in Orlando. And guess what? Both wins were also the first in each rider’s career.
Speaking of the KTM group, GasGas (which won a premier class Main Event in 2021) then won its first 250SX Main Event a year later in San Diego thanks to Michael Mosiman, and yes, it was his first-career win as well…
