Daniela Guillén is now a world champion. The Spanish rider made history this weekend in Australia by winning the 2026 WMX World Championship, becoming the first Spanish woman to claim the women’s motocross title.
And she did it in a way that left no room for doubt. After heading into the final round with the red plate, Guillén closed out the season with a perfect 1-1 finish in the races to secure her third victory of the year and the seventh of her career in the World Championship.
The RFME GasGas rider had been coming close to the title for several seasons. She was runner-up in 2023 and 2024, third in 2025, and finally, in 2026, she took the decisive step to claim the gold.
Guillén started the championship with a win at Lacapelle-Marival and followed it up with another victory at Teutschenthal, quickly taking control of the standings.
However, the fight for the title was far from easy. Kiara Fontanesi responded decisively at Foxhills, where she scored a one-two finish and took the lead by just two points.
Daniela’s comeback came in Arnhem. There, she reclaimed the red plate and arrived in Australia with a six-point lead over the Italian.
The first race already put the championship well on track. Guillén took the win while Fontanesi finished fourth, extending her lead to 13 points.
In the decisive race, the Spaniard once again showed her best form. After starting outside the podium positions, she fought her way back from sixth place to catch and pass Lachlan Turner, a three-time AMA WMX champion, to complete a flawless one-two finish.
Meanwhile, Fontanesi’s chances all but vanished after a crash in the early laps. Behind the new champion, Lotte Van Drunen finished second in the GP standings with results of 3-2, while Courtney Duncan rounded out the podium.
