The Yamaha Factory rider has given a new update after undergoing surgery in the last few hours.
Vlaanderen suffered a left knee injury after being involved in a first-turn crash in the first corner of the opening race at Arnhem. Although he managed to finish the race, he was unable to compete in the second moto as well as the following Swiss Grand Prix.
A priori Vlaanderen had hoped to return to competition in about ten days, however new evaluations suggested surgery, so, already successfully operated, the Dutchman will miss the remaining three appointments of the Motocross World Championship. He will also miss the Motocross of Nations, where he has already been replaced by Glenn Coldenhoff in the OPEN category.
Prior to the injury Vlaanderen was in good form, ranking fifth in the championship after several Top 5 finishes and two podiums in the Indonesian double-header. He is expected to renew with Yamaha for next year.
