BREAKING: Seewer to spearhead Ducati’s first MXGP effort

MXPG Trentino, Italy, 2024, Rider: Seewer

Ducati have confirmed a potent line-up for their first FIM Motocross World Championship. Three-time MXGP runner-up Jeremy Seewer has been signed to lead the Italian roster to race and develop the new Desmo450 MX in 2025 and 2026. The 30-year-old will represent a third factory in what will be his eighth season in the premier class and where he has finished in the top five of the final standings for the last five consecutive campaigns.

Ducati are still evolving and refining the Desmo450 MX in the hands of test riders Tony Cairoli and Alessandro Lupino and with the former allegedly set to make a dramatic MXGP debut for the brand at the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix at Arnhem on August 18th. The MotoGP and WorldSBK champions have however taken steps to secure their competitive racers for 2025, with Seewer agreeing a two-year (plus one) contract and 22-year-old Italian Mattia Guadagnini fixed as the second athlete as part of Marco Maddii’s squad.

Seewer’s consistency is unmatched in the modern era of MXGP. He has almost 200 successive Grand Prix appearances, and after finishing 8th in the championship as a rookie in 2018 has since registered 2nd, 2nd, 5th, 2nd and 3rd in subsequent seasons; all with factory Yamaha equipment. The Swiss has logged just one podium appearance with the Kawasaki KX450F in 2024 but has struggled to hone the turning potential of the heavy works motorcycle. His experience and steadiness as well as regularity for Grand Prix podium contention meant he was one of Ducati’s priorities for their maiden attempt at MXGP for 2025. Seewer’s Kawasaki contract was not renewed by the Japanese at the mid-July cut-off date but it seems that he was also not keen to remain in ‘green’. He has subsequently decided to front the Italian’s first big push into motocross Grand Prix competition.
