BREAKING: Romain Febvre extends Kawasaki tenure with fresh two-year deal

MXPG Galicia 2024, Lugo Rider: Febvre

Romain Febvre is set to take his association with Kawasaki to a seventh season after agreeing a new two-year contract with the company and his current Kawasaki Racing Team. The Frenchman recently returned from a right thumb injury and is seeking to add to his tally of six podium finishes in 2024 MXGP.

Febvre has been repeatedly linked to his former outfit – helmed by Vincent Bereni and now custodians of the factory Triumph effort in MX2 – for 2025 but the alleged delay of the TF 450-X (so the team can continue to refine the competitiveness of the 250cc model that has already obtained three podium trophies in its inaugural GP term) means the 2015 MXGP champion’s options were limited.

Febvre is currently 32 years old and will turn 33 at the end of current calendar. He joined Kawasaki for 2020 and classified as world championship runner-up twice, in 2021 and 2023, winning eight Grands Prix (almost half his MXGP career total) with the KX450F. The contract renewal with Kawasaki Motor Corps will bring him up to 34 by the end of 2026 and for what will be his twelfth premier class campaign and five years with Antti Pyrhonen’s Belgium-based factory setup.

Speculation surrounds Febvre’s teammate with Jeremy Seewer confirmed to leave ‘green’ after just one season. The Swiss was the third different rider in three years to race for KRT alongside #3 and followed Ben Watson and Mitch Evans in a short-lived stint with the squad.
