The Honda HRC rider will miss the second round of the AMA Pro Motocross this weekend at Hangtown. Sexton was second in the championship standings, six points behind teammate Jett Lawrence.

Sexton suffered a tough crash in the opening practice session at Fox Raceway, and despite managing to finish second at the end of the day, an equally tough second crash on Tuesday during a routine practice session was hard enough to keep him out of Saturday’s competition at Hangtown.

“Bummed to make this post but I’ll be sitting out this weekend… As you guys saw I had a big one during qualifying at Pala, then another one on Tuesday this week that banged me up pretty good. Nothing broken just need a few days to get back to 100%.” wrote Sexton on Instagram

The next fragment was taken from a Honda Press Release:

Sexton was taking part in a multi-team test at Southern California’s Fox Raceway on Tuesday, May 30, where he had posted a strong second-overall result three days earlier during the opening round, despite some aches and pains from a qualifying crash. The Illinois native sustained a head impact in the test-session fall, prompting a doctor visit. In addition to a concussion being confirmed, Sexton was also diagnosed with mono, and the decision was made to have him take time off in order to recover. A return date isn’t yet certain, but Sexton hopes to return to the series as quickly as possible.
