2025 SuperMotocross Guide: Riders, Calendar & More

AMA Supercross and AMA Pro Motocross have already dropped the curtain, but the action isn’t over yet.
After the 31 races held across both championships, riders have been battling for a spot in the SuperMotocross Playoffs, which kick off on September 6th in Concord, North Carolina. Here’s a full breakdown of the third edition of SMX.

Format and Qualification

• Three events, each with two motos per class.
• A special points format that makes every race count.
• The top 20 riders in the combined Supercross + Motocross standings qualify directly for the motos.
• Riders ranked 21st to 30th will compete in the LCQ (Last Chance Qualifier).
• Important: Riders who enter via the LCQ must always contest it, regardless of their results in previous motos.

SMX 2025 Calendar

• Playoff 1 | September 6 – zMAX Dragway, Concord
• Playoff 2 | September 13 – Dome at America’s Center, St. Louis
• SMX Final | September 20 – The Strip at Las Vegas, Las Vegas

Race Format

• Two motos per class with Olympic scoring (1st = 1 point, 2nd = 2 points, etc.).
• The rider with the lowest score is the event winner.
• Overall Standings before Playoff 1: 1st gets 25 points, 2nd gets 22, 3rd gets 20, etc.

Playoff points scale

• Playoff 1 → normal points.
• Playoff 2 → points are doubled (50 to the winner).
• SMX Final → points are tripled (75 to the winner).
