WSX: Four Fill-in Riders for Canadian Gran Prix

The opening round of the FIM World Supercross Championship will take place on August 8 in Calgary, Canada.

The rider lineup has undergone several changes across both categories for a variety of reasons. Under the championship’s team regulations, official teams must always field a replacement rider when a contracted competitor is unavailable. As a result, four substitute riders have been called up for the Canadian Grand Prix.

One of the most notable absences will be Joey Savatgy. The three-time championship runner-up is still recovering from a wrist injury, meaning his seat at Quad Lock Honda will be filled by Dean Wilson.

A scheduling conflict with the Brazilian Motocross Championship, which also overlaps with the Arena Cross calendar, will prevent Enzo Lopes (MCR Honda) and Hector Assunção (595 KTM) from competing in Canada. Their respective replacements will be Mike Alessi and Luke Fauser.

For the same reason, Jake Cannon will also be unable to make the trip to Calgary. As a result, BUD Racing Kawasaki has turned to American rider Jack Chambers to fill the vacancy.

The championship expects all teams to return to their regular lineups for Round 2, scheduled for October 10 in Birmingham.
