The wait is over. The 2026 FIM World Supercross Championship kicks off this Saturday, August 8, at McMahon Stadium in Calgary, Canada, which hosts the opening round of a brand-new global season. Here’s everything you need to know to follow the championship live.
Defending champion Jason Anderson returns with the goal of retaining his title, but he will face strong competition from Cooper Webb, Christian Craig, Jorge Zaragoza, Justin Hill, Colt Nichols, and several other contenders.
In the SX2 category, Max Anstie will defend the championship for the third time in his career after securing titles in 2023 and 2025. This time, however, he will race under the colors of Rick Ware Racing, riding ClubMX Yamaha machinery. The British rider has already signed a two-year agreement with the team. Among his main challengers is Cameron McAdoo, who makes his championship debut following a long and successful career in AMA Supercross.

RACE FORMAT
SuperPole
Following free practice sessions, riders will take part in qualifying. The four fastest riders in each category will advance to SuperPole, an individual one-lap shootout with no points awarded. The results will determine the gate-pick order for the remainder of the evening.
Sprint Race 1 & 2
Each Sprint Race is eight laps long. Only the top 10 finishers score points, with 10 points awarded to the winner, 9 to second place, and so on down to one point for tenth.
Main Event
The Main Event consists of 12 laps and uses the traditional championship points system for the top 20 finishers (25-22-20-18-16 and so on down to 1 point).
TEAM GUIDE & TEAMS
The World Supercross Championship features seven factory-backed teams, each fielding two riders in both the WSX and SX2 categories. In the event of injuries, teams are required to appoint replacement riders to complete their line-ups.
For the Canadian Grand Prix, four substitute riders will be on the gate due to the absences of Joey Savatgy (Quad Lock Honda), Enzo Lopes (MCR Honda), Hector Assunção (595 KTM Racing), and Jake Cannon (BUD Racing Kawasaki). All four injured riders are expected to return for the second round of the season.
