After a two-month break, the Women’s Motocross World Championship is back in action this weekend for Round 4 of 6, set in the sandy terrain of Arnhem, Netherlands.
All eyes will be on Lotte Van Drunen (Yamaha De Beats), who heads into her home GP with the red plate. The reigning WMX Champion kicked off the season with a dominant win in Riola Sardo, but the past two rounds have shaken up the title fight thanks to the resurgence of a familiar face: Kiara Fontanesi.
The six-time world champion, now racing under her own GasGas team, stunned the paddock with a win in the muddy conditions of Lugo, Spain—her first GP victory since 2021.

“It feels unbelievable—am I really winning a GP again?” Fontanesi said after the race. “Everyone keeps saying the younger girls are faster, and sure, they are improving, but I always believed in my potential… I can’t wait to get home and hug my girls.”
She backed that up with another overall win in Teutschenthal, Germany, firmly putting herself back in the title picture—now just six points behind Van Drunen.
Top 5 WMX Standings after Round 3 (of 6)
| Position | Rider | Points |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Lotte Van Drunen | 133 |
| 2 | Kiara Fontanesi | 127 |
| 3 | Lynn Valk | 118 |
| 4 | Daniela Guillén | 112 |
| 5 | Amandine Verstappen | 85 |
But Arnhem presents a tough challenge for Fontanesi: it’s Van Drunen’s home turf, and she’s won the last two editions here. Still, she won’t be the only local favorite—Lynn Valk (Van Venrooy KTM) will also be racing in front of a home crowd. Currently third in the standings, Valk is a known threat in sandy conditions and could be a wildcard this weekend.
And don’t count out Daniela Guillén (RFME GasGas). The two-time WMX silver medalist had a tough start to the season but is renowned for her speed in the sand. Sitting fourth in the championship, Arnhem might be the perfect place for the Spaniard to close the gap as we head into the final three rounds.
