St.Louis Playoff 2: Qualifying Report & Injury Updates

Malcolm Stewart - Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing (3)

Qualifying sessions are in the books at the Dome at America’s Center in St. Louis, Missouri. Both red-plate holders and winners from the opening playoff round, Jett Lawrence (450SMX) and Haiden Deegan (250SMX), set the fastest lap times and once again positioned themselves as the riders to beat heading into tonight’s motos.

Bad News: Stewart, Forkner & Vohland

Unfortunately, the day also brought a string of injury concerns. Austin Forkner, who had climbed to sixth in the overall SMX points, dabbed his knee during the first qualifying and felt enough pain to pull out of the event. He’ll undergo further evaluation to determine the extent of the injury.

Meanwhile, Malcolm Stewart was battling through a lingering back issue after casing a jump badly during Charlotte practice. He attempted to push through today but tipped over in a corner, got up slowly, and though he managed to circulate for another lap, he’s now confirmed to be sidelined for tonight’s racing.

The second 250SMX qualifying session also delivered drama when Max Vohland tangled with Levi Kitchen off the start. While Kitchen continued without issue, Vohland needed assistance and was taken back to the pits aboard the Alpinestars Medic cart.
