Former MXGP and AMA star Mike Healey has passed away this week due to a heart attack.

During the 80s and 90s, Healey charmed the world with his particular style and rockstar attitude, especially during his adventure in Europe when he competed in the 125cc and 250cc Motocross World Championship seasons between 1989 and 1992.

Healey was unable ever to win a title. He was runner-up in the inaugural West Coast 125cc supercross championship in 1985, and came very close to winning the 250cc world title in 1991, falling just 4 points behind compatriot Trampas Parker.

In 1992, Healey competed in his last World Championship season with the Suzuki, but unfortunately, a couple of injuries resulted in the end of his European adventure. In 1993 he returned to the United States, where he finished 5th in the final year of the AMA Pro Motocross 500cc class.

He compted in a few more season until the retire. Unfortunately his life was turned upside down due to a series of unfortunate events that led to addictions and a few years in prison. He later rebuilt his life as a barber in Costa Mesa, California.
