Warwick’s soft surface and hard base tested each competitor throughout the day’s proceedings, with Jed Beaton and Alex Larwood proving the best of the premier categories by claiming the top step of the Kawasaki MX1 and Pirelli MX2 classes, respectively.

MX1:

Round five of Penrite ProMX in Warwick provided yet another battle of the titans in the Kawasaki MX1 Class, as Monster Energy CDR Yamaha’s Jed Beaton went toe-to-toe with Boost Mobile Honda Racing’s Kyle Webster for the round honours.

It was a comfortable win in the opening MX1 moto of the day for Beaton, with Crawford launching to the holeshot, only to be overhauled by the number 14 in the following laps. He would eventually stretch out to a 9.34s victory over the KTM rider, further extending his points lead in the process.

Defending champion Webster recovered well from an early error in race one, working his way from the edge of the top 10 to a distant third, as Zachary Watson (Triumph) and Todd Waters (Raceline Husqvarna TDUB Racing) completed the top five.

The second moto belonged to Webster, who rebounded to earn a classic victory over Beaton. It was Waters who scored the holeshot, although it took only a couple of laps before Webster and Beaton resumed battle at the front of the field.

The duo traded blows all race, with the Honda rider clinging on for a 1.3-second win. Crawford finished in third, followed by Todd and Luke Clout (Penrite Racing Empire Kawasaki).

For the round, Beaton earned a two-point win over Webster, with Crawford in P3. The same trio hold down the top championship positions with Beaton on 207pts, Webster 192pts, and Crawford 171pts.

Larwood was involved in a first-turn incident, but charged his way forward to take a strong second place, courtesy of a late pass on Ferguson. KTM Racing Team’s Byron Dennis and Monster Energy Yamalube Yamaha’s championship hopeful Ryder Kingsford completed the top five.

The scintillating second MX2 race belonged to a rock-solid Larwood.

Kingsford scored the holeshot as Connolly tangled bars in the opening corner and remounted in dead last, although it was Ferguson who wasted no time in taking the lead.

Larwood made a decisive move into the lead late in the moto to take a 1.62s win over Ferguson. Kingsford finished third, Connolly fourth, and Dennis fifth.

Larwood left Warwick with the round win from Connolly and Ferguson, while in the championship standings, Connolly holds a 17pt margin over Kingsford (235pts to 218), with Ferguson in third (177pts).
