MXGP of Trentino: Preview, Key Info & How to watch

guadagnini trentino22

This weekend the MXGP heads to Trentino for the fourth round of the calendar. It will be the first back-to-back Grand Prix of the season, just four days after Switzerland. But before we get to the main notes, we want to let you know that during the weekend we’ll be bringing you all the latest information and results throughout our new session brand named GP Reel. There you’ll find results, details, and the latest news from each session blow by blow. Stay tuned!

The action on track has been great so far. In the MXGP class, we have seen three different overall winners; none of them have the red plate, though, Spaniard Jorge Prado came short of the win for a third time, but he has been collecting a bunch of points than anyone due to his consistency. Before Switzerland, he was seven points over Herlings and now is 21 up over the Dutchman. Even if we take away the Qualifying race points, Prado will be still in the lead with 125pts while Renaux and Herlings would be tied with 117pts each. So, overall or not, Prado is the man to beat.

Meanwhile, the Frenchman duo of Maxime Renaux and Romain Febvre has been growing up in confidence. They were 1-2 last weekend in Switzerland, both taking their first podium of the season and a handful of points as well. On the other hand, Trentino seems a great opportunity for Jeffrey Herlings and Ruben Fernandez to try to back on top after a so-so performance in Switzerland where they ended 4th and 6th overall. Herlings has the most wins at Trentino (5) tie with Tim Gajser. Meanwhile, Fernandez has good memories too. He earned three consecutive MX2 podiums back in 2021 when the track hosted rounds 14, 15, and 16.

On the other hand, Pauls Jonass will unfortunately not be lining up this weekend due to an injury picked up in the second race in Switzerland.

In the MX2 class, things start to shape out in a very competitive way with four winners in six motos, and two overall winners. Both Monster Energy Yamaha´s riders Jago Geerts and Thibault Benistant had clinched the top of the podium, nevertheless, Nestaan Husqvarna`s Kay de Wolf and Roan Van de Moosdijk won motos each. Coming to Trentino local hero Andrea Adamo expects to join them in the winners’ circle. The Italian has been solid with two 2nd overall podiums.

Then we have a group of riders such as Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Liam Everts, Red Bull GASGAS Fatcory Racing’s Simon Laengenfelder, F&H Kawasaki Racing Team’s Kevin Horgmo, and Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Lucas Coenen who are fighting with the top ranking riders and look like they only need a little bit more consistency in their ride to really get to the big points.
