The major story of the morning came with the confirmation that Lucas Coenen will take no further part in his home Grand Prix. The Belgian rider was fifth fastest in Free Practice, but Red Bull KTM Factory Racing later decided to withdraw him from the remainder of the event.
As a result, Jeffrey Herlings heads into the races with a commanding 49-point lead in the championship and a 74-point advantage over Romain Febvre, the nearest active rider in the standings.
