To say that the 2026 MXGP Motocross World Championship season—set to begin March 7–8 in Bariloche—is one of the most anticipated in recent years is far from a cliché. The numbers back it up: no fewer than 15 riders in the premier class have previously won at least one Grand Prix.

Leading the list, unsurprisingly, is Jeffrey Herlings, with a staggering 112 career victories—all achieved with KTM. Now embarking on a new chapter, the obvious question is: when will his first win with his new team arrive?

A similar storyline surrounds Tim Gajser, second among active riders with 52 wins. The Slovenian also begins a new phase in his career, setting up an intriguing battle to see which of the two will open his 2026 account first.

Reigning world champion Romain Febvre sits on 26 career victories, firmly established as one of the defining figures of the past decade.

Just behind him is a generation pushing hard at the front. Former MX2 rivals Tom Vialle and Jago Geerts have each amassed 24 Grand Prix wins. Their rivalry now continues in the premier class.

Lucas Coenen enters his second MXGP season with 16 career victories, six of them secured last year while battling for the title. Meanwhile, Kay de Wolf makes his MXGP debut after collecting 15 MX2 wins and the 2024 world title. The leap to the premier class is significant—but so is the talent.

Among the recent MX2 champions looking to establish themselves in MXGP are Andrea Adamo, with nine wins and the 2023 world crown, and Thibault Benistant, a three-time Grand Prix winner.

Experience will also play a major role. Jeremy Seewer has competed in over 200 Grands Prix and claimed 13 victories. His objective now is different: delivering Ducati’s first MXGP win. Latvia’s Pauls Jonass brings 12 career victories across MX2 and MXGP, while Maxime Renaux arrives with nine wins, including last year’s triumph in Argentina.

Rounding out the list are Calvin Vlaanderen, with two career victories; Mattia Guadagnini, a two-time MX2 winner; and Rubén Fernández, who earned his maiden Grand Prix victory on Argentine soil in 2023.
