Team Mexico wins the 2026 Motocross of Nations Gate Pick Ballot
The 2026 Motocross of Nations is officially underway. Before riders hit the track in Ernée for practice sessions and qualifying races on Saturday, one of the most important moments of the weekend took place on Friday morning: the traditional gate pick ballot.
The 2026 Motocross of Nations is already underway. Before the riders take to the track at Ernée on Saturday for practice and the qualifying races, one of the event’s most traditional moments took place this Friday: the gate draw.
Australia, the defending champions, had a bit more luck: third place for Jed Beaton, Alex Larwood, and Aaron Tanti. The United States, meanwhile, will start from gate 26, and France, the local heroes, will start from gate 22.
The Spanish team—composed of Jorge Prado (MXGP), Guillem Farrés (MX2), and Francisco “Carbonero” García (OPEN)—will be the second-to-last to choose their starting gates for tomorrow’s qualifying heats. Mexico won the draw.
How Does the Ballot works?
Each nation receives a randomly assigned number during the draw. That number determines the order in which teams can choose their starting gate position for Saturday’s qualifying races.
A lower number is generally considered an advantage because it allows teams to select from the most favorable gate positions before other nations.
