Lachlan Turner capped off a flawless season by completing the championship on a perfect 200 points.
The 19-year-old American was the benchmark rider from the opening round to the finale and finished comfortably ahead of Taylah McCutcheon on 156 points and defending champion Charli Cannon on 154.
The title makes Turner the first American rider to win an Australian motocross championship since PJ Larsen claimed the Pro Lites crown in 2010. Before Larsen, the last American champion was Eddie Warren, who secured the 250cc and 500cc double in 1999.
McCutcheon and Cannon both challenged Turner at QMP. McCutcheon grabbed both holeshots, while Cannon led the second moto before crashing out of contention. Despite the pressure, Turner’s speed and composure once again proved decisive.
Cannon finished second overall on the weekend with 2-2 results, ahead of McCutcheon (3-3), Madi Simpson (5-4), Emma Milesevic (4-5) and Darci Whalley (7-6).
Four-time Australian Women’s Champion Cannon endured a winless domestic season for the first time in years, finishing runner-up in three rounds while continuing to develop internationally after claiming her maiden AMA victory in the United States.
“This season has been challenging, but it’s also taught me a lot. We know exactly where we need to improve. We have a plan, and while it won’t happen overnight, I’m committed to the process and excited about what’s ahead.” said Cannon.
