Kay de Wolf has suffered a late injury setback ahead of the International of Lierop, ruling him out of the traditional Dutch pre-season race just one week before the new campaign begins.
The 2024 MX2 World Champion did not disclose specific medical details, but the issue is understood to stem from a thumb injury sustained during competition in France last weekend. The damage reportedly required a minor surgical procedure earlier this week, leaving him unable to line up on home sand.
Sharing the update via social media, De Wolf expressed his disappointment at missing one of the most iconic tracks on the calendar, while reassuring fans that his recovery is already underway and that he aims to return soon.
His withdrawal naturally sparks questions about his readiness for the opening round of the MXGP World Championship in Argentina next weekend. At this stage, the goal remains to recover in time for the Grand Prix opener, with De Wolf and his team focused on accelerating the rehabilitation process to be fit for the gate drop.
