If you are
a true fan of motocross you must be glad to know that Jimmy D´ will be racing this weekend in Southwick for round 6 of the AMA Pro Motocross series.
Decotis has been through a lot during this period. Back in 2020, he was forced to retire due a Lyme disease, which is a bacterial infection you get from the bite of an infected tick. At first, Lyme disease usually causes symptoms such as a rash, fever, headache, and fatigue. But if it is not treated early, the infection can spread to your joints, heart, and nervous system.
“It’s been 2 years since I was forced to retire from professional SX due to my Lyme disease. At the time it felt like my whole world was ending, I could barely ride or train and the sport that once brought me so much happiness and joy was causing me so much pain – it was a really weird time for me.” wrote Decotis on Instagram back in 2022.
“After I stopped racing I went all in on Lyme treatment. I studied everything I could and messaged 100’s of people with Lyme and autoimmune issues. I finally found my answer “Supportive Oligonucleotide Therapy” Which was a game changer in my treatment. Look into this if you have Lyme! “2 years later and I’m working full time, riding for FUN, training and really feel like myself again. Although I have no plans to ever race a SX or National again I will be riding and doing some local races this year and I’m really looking forward to hanging with my New England moto family again!”
Decotis has been racing at the domestic level on his Massachusetts natal on a 250SX KTM, same which will be ridding this weekend in front of his home crowd for the first time since 2018.
“I can’t believe I’m doing this announcement, but I’m very excited, grateful, and above all healthy, which is the mosst important thing to me. I’d like to announce that I’m returning to compete in Southwick this year in the 250 class for the Trail Jesters KTM team. I started a big battle with Lyme disease three years ago, a battle that forced me to retire from sport, a disease that ruined my life. A new treatment was found I’m cured now. That said, my ambition is not to return to the sport full time and make competition my profession. it’s just for this time and it’s something I really want to do. I’m really excited, I can’t wait. I’m going to need support every lap because I’m going to be exhausted on this track. it’s going to be tough; it’s the most demanding track of the outdoor season. I decided to come back there after 5 years without doing any outdoor event. I’m going to need your help, and I’m doing it for you, for me, and for the fans.”
Decotis has a respectable career. He competed for teams like GEICO Honda and also collected his first SX podium with JGR Suzuki. Decotis also enjoyed a brief experience in the MXGP circuits ridding in the MX2 class of CLS Kawasaki (photo).
