Injury Update: Another setback for Derek Drake

Derek Drake was one of the amateur prospect back in time. In 2019 he made his pro debut with Troy Lee Designs KTM one year after capping his amateur career with the 250 A and the 250 Pro Sport Loretta Lynn´s titles. However, his recent season has been interrumpted by countless injuries.

This season he was set to race for the brand new BarX Yamaha Team, but a new setback has emerged in the form of lyme, a physical disease. Drake will miss the first part of the 250SX West Coast Championship in order to a full recovery.

“Well I finally have an answer as to what I’ve been dealing with for the past 4+ years, I’m bummed it took this long to figure it out, but I’m glad I have and answer and can move forward. Fortunately/Unfortunately I found out I have Lyme disease, it’s been so frustrating putting in lack luster results and never being happy about my fitness, no matter what I did my results were always the same. Thank you to BarX Yamaha Team for sticking behind me, the team/personnel deserve more than what I have been giving, and I look forward to the day I can do that. For now I want to really get ahold of this and figure out how to go about it. So I will be missing the first part of the season, and I look forward to racing again!”

With Derek Drake out of the bench, the BarX Yamaha team will lineup with Frenchman Anthony Bourdon and Americans Dillan Schwartz, Brad West and Leo Tucker.
