Fran Garcia Becomes EMX250’s Most Successful Rider Ever

Francisco García has secured his place in the history books of the EMX250 Championship. The Spaniard, crowned European Champion in 2026, not only claimed the title in dominant fashion but also became the winningest rider in the category’s history since it was established as a support class to the FIM Motocross World Championship in 2007.

The road to this milestone, however, was far from straightforward. Garcia’s move to the EMX250 class took time to materialize. In 2023, he signed with SB Action KTM, but the partnership with the Dutch team lasted only four EMX250 rounds and a handful of ADAC MX Masters appearances before both parties went their separate ways. As a result, he returned to the EMX125 category with the RFME GasGas structure to complete the season.

His full-time EMX250 campaign began in 2024, and signs of his potential quickly emerged. His first podium came at Trentino, a venue that would later become a defining chapter in his career. One year later, already riding for BUD Racing Kawasaki, he claimed his maiden overall victory at the Italian circuit, launching a remarkable run of success.

During the 2025 season, Garcia collected four overall wins at Trentino, Matterley Basin and Turkey. Yet the championship slipped through his fingers after several mechanical failures led to costly retirements. Despite those setbacks, he finished third in the standings, just six points shy of the runner-up position.

The redemption came in 2026—and in spectacular fashion. Garcia dominated the championship with seven overall victories, all of them achieved through perfect 1-1 sweeps. A mechanical issue and his absence from Lommel due to a knee injury were the only reminders of the misfortune that had affected him the previous year, but neither was enough to derail his title charge. He secured the championship one round early despite having raced three fewer motos than his main rivals.

With seven overall wins in a single season, Garcia matched the all-time EMX250 record previously held by Valentin Teillet (2008) and Christophe Charlier (2009). However, his previous successes allowed him to go one step further, making him the most successful rider in EMX250 history.

His dominance is equally evident in moto wins. Carbonero amassed 25 race victories, eight of them in 2025 and another 17 in 2026. Even more impressively, nine of his 11 overall victories came via a flawless 1-1 scorecard, underlining the level of superiority he displayed throughout his EMX250 career.

At just 18 years old, Carbonero leaves the category as both champion and the most successful rider it has ever seen. A legacy that will be difficult to match.
