Italian rider Ferruccio Zanchi was involved in one of the most dramatic crashes of the weekend during the Foxhills Grand Prix, Round 12 of the FIM Motocross World Championship.
While battling Julius Mikula for sixth place—and on course for what could have been one of his strongest results of the season—the Beddini Ducati factory rider lost control of his Desmo250 MX in one of the most demanding sections of the British circuit. A violent kick from the bike unsettled him at the top of one of Foxhills’ steep descents, sending him over the handlebars and into a heavy crash in one of the worst possible areas of the track.
The incident immediately raised concerns as Zanchi tumbled a considerable distance down the hillside. For a few moments, the Italian remained motionless beside the circuit, prompting fears that he may have suffered a serious injury. Fortunately, to the relief of everyone in attendance, he was eventually able to get back to his feet under his own power.
Despite the severity of the crash, the outcome was less serious than initially feared. Medical examinations revealed a small fracture of the sixth thoracic vertebra (T6), an injury that will not require surgery.
The 19-year-old will now begin a period of rest and rehabilitation as he focuses on making a full recovery before returning to competition.
