Nicolai Skovbjerg (SixtySeven Husqvarna) emerged victorious at Round 9 of the EMX250 European Championship in Lommel, Belgium, delivering two impressive charge rides to secure his second overall win of the season following his triumph in Riola Sardo.
Despite being forced to fight through the pack in both motos, the Danish rider recovered from outside the top ten on each occasion to post 1-2 finishes, giving him the overall victory and valuable championship points.
Billy Askew (DirtStore Triumph), who claimed his first-ever EMX250 race win in Sunday’s second moto. The British rider’s 6-1 scorecard earned him second overall.
RACE 1 HIGHLIGHTS
Francesco Bellei (Cat Moto Bauerschmidt KTM) completed the overall podium in Lommel. Consistent 3-6 finishes allowed the Italian to secure third overall and celebrate his first podium appearance in the EMX250 class.
The absence of championship leader Francisco García (BUD Racing Kawasaki) opened the door for his rivals to gain ground. The Spaniard missed the Belgian round after suffering a minor knee injury in training, although he is expected to return for the next round in Uddevalla, Sweden.
RACE 2 HIGHLIGHTS
Skovbjerg capitalized on the opportunity better than anyone else, reducing the deficit to the championship leader. Even after missing Lommel, García remains firmly in control of the series, holding a 78-point lead over the Danish rider with only three rounds to go.
