Dylan Ferrandis announces retirement after SuperMotocross finale

Dylan Ferrandis will bring his professional racing career to an end this weekend. The French rider has confirmed through social media that the 2026 SuperMotocross World Championship Final, scheduled for September 26 in Missouri, will be the last race of a career that took him from the MXGP paddock to the top of American motocross.

Before crossing the Atlantic, Ferrandis spent several seasons competing in the FIM Motocross World Championship. However, his move to the United States in 2017 with Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha marked the beginning of the most successful chapter of his career.

The Frenchman captured the 250SX West titles in 2019 and 2020, as well as the 2020 AMA Pro Motocross 250 Championship. His first Supercross crown came in dramatic fashion, overturning a points deficit to defeat Adam Cianciarulo in the final round of the season.

Ferrandis moved into the premier class in 2021 and immediately established himself as a contender. After earning a podium in just his second appearance in the 450 division, he went on to complete a remarkable outdoor campaign and secured the 2021 AMA Pro Motocross 450 Championship, becoming champion in his rookie season in the class.

An injury in 2022 disrupted the defense of that title, but Ferrandis remained a regular presence near the front of the field in the years that followed.

After concluding his tenure with Yamaha, he raced for Phoenix Racing Honda in 2024 and 2025 before joining Troy Lee Designs Red Bull Ducati Factory Racing for the 2026 season.

Although there had been a possibility of continuing with Ducati in 2027, Ferrandis recently admitted that, after spending so many years competing at the highest level, he felt it was time to weigh the risks of continuing his career.

At 32 years old, the Frenchman has chosen to step away while still remaining competitive. He enters the SuperMotocross finale sitting seventh in the 450SMX standings following a solid playoff campaign.
