Monster Energy Triumph Factory Racing’s Camden McLellan has picked up his first overall podium result of the season with a stunning second overall at the MXGP of Sardegna. The South African was clearly at one with his TF 250-X machine all weekend long, finishing as a close runner-up in race one before charging to third in race two to secure his well-deserved place on the rostrum.

The deep sand track of Riola Sardo marked round four of the 2025 MX2 World Championship and is the venue where McLellan secured his debut podium in MX2. With fond memories of last year’s success in his mind, the likeable South African headed to Sardinia confident of delivering a repeat result.

After starting just inside the top 10 in race one, McLellan moved quickly into third on the opening lap with his sights set firmly on the lead. The pace at the front was incredibly close, and by mid-race, he’d lost third to former MX2 World Champion Andrea Adamo. Within three laps he’d regrouped and worked his way back by his rival, and when early race leader Sacha Coenen crashed spectacularly, Camden was into second. McLellan then closed the gap on eventual race winner Kay de Wolf from seven to less than two seconds as he crossed the line in a solid second place.

With overall victory well within reach following his race one finish, Camden was excited for race two. Frustratingly, he didn’t get the start he needed and was faced with a long charge through the field. By lap seven, he had worked his way up to fifth, before moving into third with a handful of laps to go. Despite his best efforts to reel in the leaders, they were just a little too far ahead, and Camden crossed the line in third to secure his place on the second step of the podium. Following his excellent, career-best overall result, Camden now sits seventh in the MX2 World Championship.

“That’s round four wrapped up here in Sardinia and it’s been an amazing weekend. To be back on the podium is awesome and I can’t thank the team enough for what they do. I felt strong on the bike from free practice through to the last lap of race two and everything just went right for me this weekend. I do need to improve my starts but besides that, it’s been a great weekend and to be running up front again has given me a lot of confidence.”
