Austin Forkner was forced to sit out the fourth round of the AMA Supercross Championship after suffering a crash during Friday’s press day. Medical evaluations later confirmed a fracture to his left hand, ruling him out of competition in the short term.
As expected, Forkner will miss at least the next two rounds, wearing a cast for a minimum of two weeks. The injury represents a significant setback for Triumph Factory Racing, which is now left without riders in the 250SX West Coast division.
It’s worth remembering that Jordon Smith is scheduled to make his 450SX debut at Round 7 in Arlington on February 27, once he completes his recovery from a shoulder injury. Meanwhile, Forkner now faces a race against time to be fit for that same date, which marks the start of the 250SX East Coast Championship, where he is expected to resume his program.
Forkner’s brief stint in the premier class did not produce many standout moments. He finished 15th and 17th in the two Anaheim rounds, and in between failed to qualify for the San Diego Main Event, bringing a challenging start to his season to an early halt due to injury.
