Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll know that Antonio Cairoli is making his second appearance of the season aboard the Ducati Desmo450 MX with the Aruba.it Factory MX Team at the upcoming MXGP of Great Britain in Matterley Basin, set for June 20–22.

The iconic Italian has a deep and successful history on British soil, dating back nearly two decades. In 2006—the debut year of Matterley Basin on the MXGP calendar—Cairoli clinched second overall with 6-1 moto scores on his way to his first MX2 World Championship. Just months later, the venue hosted the Motocross of Nations, where a still MX2-class Cairoli stunned the world by defeating 450cc riders in the MX2 + Open race aboard his Yamaha YZ250F.

That wouldn’t be the only time Cairoli conquered the bigger bikes. In 2007, at Donington Park, he made his first official appearance in the premier class and shocked the paddock with a dominant 1-1 performance.

In 2008, his final MX2 season, he returned to the top of the podium at the British GP—this time held at Mallory Park. Although the track remained on the calendar for 2009, Cairoli finished 8th overall in the MXGP class.

Matterley Basin rejoined the calendar in 2011 and has since become the permanent home of the British Grand Prix. Cairoli has claimed six overall wins at the venue, making it one of his most successful hunting grounds.
