The 43rd annual AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, will officially kick off Sunday, July 28, and run through Saturday, August 3. Monday will be exclusive for practice sessions. The real action will start on Tuesday with the first of three motos of each class.
Of all the 36 classes at the Ranch, the 250 Pro Sport and Open Pro Sport are the main divisions, as their riders are one step closer to the Pro ranks, and most already have factory contracts. For example, last year Daxton Bennick won the Open Pro Sport title for the Star Racing Yamaha Amateur program and is now part of the professional team. He even finished on the podium at the 250SX East Coast opening round in Detroit, on February 3rd.
The 250B and Schoolboy 2 classes have some heavy hitters too ready to turn pro. A good example of that is Rockstar Energy Husqvarna´s Casey Cochran, who clinched the 2023 Schoolboy 2 title and now is part of the Pro Ranks instead of continuing another season as an amateur.
Some names to follow this year in the 250 Pro Sport and Open Pro Sport classes are Team Green Kawasaki´s Drew Adams, Kyrstian Janik, and Enzo Temmerman. Adams has some SX Futures wins under his belt. He is also competing at professional level in the Canadian Triple Crown Series sitting 2nd in the standings with three overall wins out of six. Meanwhile, Janik won the 250B title last year and Temmerman finished 3rd overall in Schoolboy 2 and 5th in 250B.
Another rider who is in Canada contesting the Triple Crown Series is Honda´s Evan Stice. Also, 2023 Open Pro Sport runner-up Parker Ross (Honda) is going for another try.
Cole Davies is the new gun from Star Racing Yamaha. One of the sport’s top-up-and-coming riders, Davies made his U.S. debut in 2023 and has enjoyed a standout sophomore year in Supercross Futures. The 16-year-old won the opening qualifying round at Anaheim 2, scored two podiums, and secured his second 250SX Futures victory at the championship-deciding round at the Monster Energy AMA Supercross season finale in Salt Lake City, Utah, to be crowned the 2024 Supercross Futures AMA National Champion.
In 2022, NSA Yamaha’s Avery Long swept the 250B and 450B classes, but struggled in the Pro classes last year, finishing 7th and 13th overall. Now with almost a year under his belt is ready for another trip to the Ranch.
Last but not least, we have some veterans among the next young guns. You probably heard the name of Andrew Short, a former factory rider, or Jacob Hayes, Cole Martinez, and Heath Harrison.
